THE SPINDLETOP CAVALIERS
Fencing in the Golden Triangle
Organized in 1985, the Spindletop Cavaliers Fencing Club has maintained an active presence, offering classes and lessons in Southeast Texas. It's fencers also compete in local and regional tournaments.
CLASS INFORMATION
Dear Friends, The Spindletop Cavaliers are alive and well and fencing in Port Arthur/Beaumont. Fencing times are 7pm-9pm Tuesday and Saturday evenings. We do not fence on holidays or holiday weekends, since we have such a hearty work ethic! Thanks to Hurricane Rita, we now fence at St. Marks Episcopal Church Gym, at 680 Calder in Beaumont.
(Word to the wise...7:00 p.m. is more like 7:15 many nights!...Wait for us, we'll be there!)
If you'd like to come the first couple of times just to see and try it out a little, there's no charge. If you decide you're interested, it is $15/month. We have family rates as well.
We don't ask you to purchase equipment or uniforms until you really have a chance to decide if it is for you or not.
For more information, you can contact Fr. Sinclair Oubre, our coach at 409-985-8010.

I began fencing in September of 1977. At that time I was a student at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Seminary in Houston, and the University of St. Thomas in Houston... After attending classes at UST, I drove over to Rice on Tuesdays and Thursdays to take part in the Rice club. At that time, Master Arnold Mercado was the fencing coach. I really value the lessons that he gave me. He stressed solid classic form. This was a challenge, but I look back on it now, and appreciate the fact that he taught me right, and I did not have to break any bad habits.
